Focusing on economic self-sufficiency is great, but Africa needs more open markets, foreign investment, and integration into the global economy, not less. Fixing governance and encouraging entrepreneurial innovation will do a lot more for prosperity than doubling down on nationalist policies.

It's about time these leaders started calling out neo-colonialism for what it is—Africa will never be truly free as long as foreign powers control our economies and resources.

It’s about time these movements start tackling neo-colonialism head-on and actually put socialist principles into practice, instead of just paying lip service while global capital still runs the show.

This summit really hits the nail on the head about how Africa’s “freedom” is still being undermined by economic structures set up to benefit the West. It’s not enough to just have political independence if our economies are still dependent and our resources are shipped out raw for someone else’s profit. Ramaphosa is right: debt and unfair trade have become the new colonialism, keeping the continent in a cycle of dependency.
