At the 2025 Liberation Movements Summit in South Africa, leaders from former liberation parties across Southern Africa voiced concerns about renewed foreign interference and economic exploitation on the continent.
President Cyril Ramaphosa warned that debt and economic dependency have replaced colonial chains, keeping Africa subservient to the interests of the Global North. Delegates also reflected on the declining popularity of liberation movements and the need to realign with the aspirations of a new generation.
Calls were made for unity, organizational renewal, and a recommitment to the original ideals of liberation.
