A relentless heatwave across southern Europe has triggered devastating wildfires in Greece and Turkey, forcing thousands to evacuate homes and tourist hotspots.
Temperatures have soared above 40°C (104°F), with strong winds and dry conditions making firefighting efforts extremely challenging. Major blazes have threatened suburbs of Athens, the Peloponnese, Crete, and several islands, while Turkey has also reported fatalities and widespread destruction. European allies, including Czech and Italian emergency teams, have joined local crews in battling the flames.
Authorities warn that the risk remains high as the heatwave persists, urging residents and tourists to stay alert and follow official guidance.
